Technical support document: 1 er. Got "Error 76. Path not found" when clicking the "Accept the terms" button. Has French version of Windows 98. 1 solution. C:\Temp directory did not exist, and needed to be created. 2 er. Getting an access violation error when the setup program tries to install the msvcrt40.dll. 2 solution. Had him shut down all applications, including Anti-Virus software, and reboot the PC. 3 er. Got "Error 424. Object required" when trying to launch the application. 3 solution. The necessary dlls were not installed on his PC as Windows NT seems to be set up to prevent users writing to the C:\Winnt and C:\Program Files directories. He will get the LAN Admin to install the application on the PC. 4 er. Getting an access violation error when the setup program tries to install the msvcrt40.dll. 4 solution. Sutting down everything and rebooting the PC did not work. Had him try it again, click the ignore button on the access violation error message, and continue the installation. The application seems to be working fine. 5 er. Wondering why the export and preview options were taken off the Profiles screen. 5 solution. Explained to him that the export option was not working properly, so it was removed. The report will be automatically previewed when the OK button is clicked to generate it. It can then be exported by clicking on the suitcase button of the report window. 6 er. Getting a "Failure writing to the system registry. The registry may be corrupt, or you may not have the required permissions to write to the registry." message when trying to install the application. 6 solution. Sent him the Microsoft Technet article Q247497 which describes how to solve this problem. 7 er. Got "Error 31037. Error loading from file" when trying to produce a report. 7 solution. Sent him the following information (see also the Visual Basic 4.0 Technical Documentation document found in the VB Applications Documentation binder): a) Uninstall the application. b) Rename the crystl32.ocx file to crystl32.new. c) Reinstall the application. d) Move the crystl32.ocx file installed with the application to the application directory. e) Rename crystl32.new to crystl32.ocx. f) Open a command prompt window. g) Change directories to C:\Program Files\{Application}. h) Type "regsvr32 crystl32.ocx", without the quotes and press enter. 8 er. Got "An error occurred while registering the file 'C:\Windows\System\tabctl32.ocx'" during the installation of the application. He is then obliged to abort the installation, yet the tabctl32.ocx file remains on his system. 8 solution. Trying to manually register any of these files returns the error message "Load library("") failed. GetLastError returns 0x00000485", which according to Microsoft Technet article Q249873 means that the dll in question cannot be found. However, in this case all the files were in their proper place. I suggested that he rename the tabctl32.ocx file to tabctl32.old, and try reinstalling the application. Also, he should search his hard drive to see if he has multiple copies of tabctl32.ocx, and to check and ensure that "C:\Windows\System" is included in his path.
